Pediatric Dentistry

Why A Pediatric Dentist?

A pediatric dentist is the specialist who is dedicated to the oral health of children from infancy through the teenage years.

The pediatric dentist completes a minimum of two extra years of intensive training at a children’s hospital or at a university dental school. Pediatric dentists are trained to handle the emotional, physical, and mental needs of the routine and special needs patient. Our office stresses prevention, not only in minimizing dental caries (decay), but also in interceptive orthodontics to prevent or lessen the severity of braces later on in life. The pediatric dentist is also additionally trained in the care and treatment of dental injuries such as broken teeth or knocked out teeth. We work closely with our orthodontist in our office to give total care to your child. We also consult with your pediatrician as well as other dental and medical specialists as the need arises.

Your Child’s First Dental Visit

“FIRST TOOTH = FIRST VISIT” is our dental philosophy.

Our staff at Oak Tree Kids Dental is highly qualified to create an educational, enjoyable and positive first visit. The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry and the American Academy of Pediatrics both recommend that the first dental visit be at one year of age. Children who have their first dental experience when they are young are more likely to have a favorable outlook toward dental care throughout life. You, as parents, play a very important role in getting your child started with a positive attitude toward dental care. Because dental visits are an integral part of your child's total health program, we approach the first visit as a natural part of your concern for optimal health care for your child. We emphasize prevention and want to develop a dental home for your children. We are sure you agree it is best to avoid words that might cause unnecessary fear and concern, such as needle, pull, drill or hurt. Our Dentist and our team here at Oak Tree Kids Dental have studied communication skills so they insure a fun, pleasant yet effective initial "preventive care" experience.

Our favorite; a 2 minute video to brush your child's teeth from Elmo. (Caution; extremely catchy song, you will be humming this for days...)
